In our lifetime many of us will encounter a traumatic experience. Trauma can be any life threatening or perceived life threatening event or events that contribute to an increase in symptoms. Common symptoms are flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, hyper-vigilance, and dissociation. Many experience a decrease in function, such as difficulty focusing on tasks, frequently forgetting important things, making mistakes, difficulty eating and/or sleeping.
Both you and I will work together in determining if trauma treatment is clinically appropriate. We will also discuss what forms of trauma treatment would be most effective for your unique circumstances.
Trauma treatment is geared towards creating a safe environment that fosters opportunity to process trauma, improved understanding of trauma symptoms, challenging dysfunctional coping mechanisms, decreasing physiological symptomatology, and to create holistic long term healing.
Use of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) approaches are available. Approach is chosen based on clinical appropriateness.
